You run a business, whether you like it or not. If you. Do video marketing. If you do any kind of marketing, you have to look at yourself as a business owner, not as a realtor or an insurance agent, a jeweler, or a contractor.
That's what you do, but you're also a business owner and it's important for you to have that mindset because if you're a realtor, As I am, sorry, and this took me years to master and figure out, and I'm still not even at the mastery stage. I'm still stumbling upon myself cuz I get in front of my own feet and stumble every day.
I understand that I have to delegate some things for me to focus on things. For example, video editing. I mean, it's not just video editing, it's accounting, it's marketing, it's advertising. It's setting up my system so that they work. It's bringing in professionals so that I can focus on what matters.
And to me, what matters is in bringing in more business, for example, I love working on my house. I like working on stuff around houses. I like fixing stuff. I can be, I can pretty much do anything. I could probably build a house if I wanted to, but I'm too lazy for that. , that's not the point. The point is I would spend more time getting a house ready for market, doing that as a favor for my client than focusing on building more business.
Breakdown your value and costs
While I enjoyed it and while I was okay at it, what I learned was I needed to take my skillset and allow somebody else to do it. And. Mash those together, mesh those together so that I can convey what I want to have done because I know what I want to have done. I know how to, you know, put in a window, and install air conditioning.
I can install a dishwasher. I want to have it done and I want it done in a specific way. So when I talk to my, my vendors or contractors, I say, this is how I want it. Well, then I took it even a step further. I brought on a project manager who happened to work in Mexico and build those multimillion-dollar hotels, and she knew how she was an architect by trade.
And a projector, a project manager by, because that's what happens, right? So she would manage these, these builds in hotels where you're building multimillion dollars, multiple rooms and saying, these need to get done and I need to be on a budget and within time and in the schedule. And this all needs to be done with good quality workmanship.
And that's why I brought her on because she now costs me money. But I also can go build, bring, bring in more. So I leveraged that knowledge transferred it over, and allowed it to happen. That's delegation. It's the same thing for you as whatever it is you do if you're an insurance agent or a realtor or a contractor or whatever, there are certain things that you just will not want to focus on, whether it's accounting or bills or collections.
You need to have somebody else do it because your job is to focus. I just talked to somebody that does jewelry, right, and he wants to do everything. I'm like, no, you need to. You need to bring stuff in. As a matter of fact, I just brought in a marketing expert for my video business, even though I have a marketing back.
Figure out what it costs to hire a VA
Not because I don't know what I'm doing, it's because I need a third set of eyeballs coming in and telling me how to do my job or poking holes in what I'm doing and what my team is doing. And he comes in with fresh ideas and suggestions and ideas things that make my company better and a better value for you as a client.
Right? And I saw that as a weakness. When you go into business, you can't be myopic and think that I am the king of everything and you know everything. You need to take, your tunnel vision and allow it to open up and become what it can possibly become. And it's removing the ego, the hubris from your business and allowing other people to offer suggestions, and taking that in stride in understanding what happens, right?
So that's why video. Became a product or a service because we wanted to make sure that you have an opportunity to
focus more on building business by allowing yourself to get in front of the camera, be done with being in front of the camera and tossing it off, and delegating it to us to do it. So let's get into this. This. This is part of the whole talk, right? If you don't try, you don't succeed. Michael Jordan, you miss a hundred percent of the shots you don't take, right?
How much does it really cost you to edit videos? Now, I'm not talking about the time to set it up and do the research and the tag research, and creating that outline and practicing and getting in front of the camera and being who you can be and being comfortable. Talking about once they're, once you're done hitting record and you hit stop and you send it off, or you do it yourself, how much time does that take?
How Much time do you spend Editing or keeping track of your VA?
And I actually have the source here, so let me open this up. Something that we can go into and you're completely within your rights to comment down below and say, I'm full of crap, but the same. , I want you to understand that this is my mindset, and I'm not, it's not a hundred percent accurate. This is just about roundabout numbers, right?
And my thoughts are if you make over a hundred thousand dollars a year, that's $50 an hour, right? You cost yourself 15% of your, workday or 15% of your work. 2080, blah, blah, blah. Write all that numbers, right? If you, so these numbers are based on if you make $50 an hour, so here's where it is. Just lost productivity is 312 hours.
15% of your year or it costs you 16,440, but it doesn't take into account how many opportunities you lose when you're sitting there, and I've done it. I'm guilty, I tell you all day long. I'm totally guilty. I'm sitting here understanding that I enjoy editing videos. I enjoy that creative process. I enjoy doing all that stuff.
but what I realized is that four, four hours a week out of my day, out of my week, I could be out there networking or creating more videos or getting my name out there or helping others or serving others, right? It's the same thing with hiring a VA. Now, granted, I'm saying that hang on a second, I'm saying, Only half of that of your time. But my contention is, it's actually more because when you're working with a VA, you have to make sure that you're keeping track of them. You're looking for them, making sure that they're being present, that they're working, and what happens when they get sick, and what happens if their computer goes down or what happens if there's a hurricane.
So not a hurricane, but whatever they call it, tropical. And they get to lose the internet or they can what? So I've had everything happen to me and luckily I have enough VAs that work with me to make sure that we don't miss a step. Do we miss a step? Yeah. We're human. We make mistakes, right? We're not gonna be perfect.
I'll tell you that all day long. We're not perfect. But here's the thing, when you're, when you hire a va, yes, you get them 40 hours a week for the most part. , but they're also going to, you have to spend time training them. You have to spend time motivating 'em. You have to make sure you're keeping track of them.
Make sure that they're doing work for you, and that could be seven and a half percent or 156 hours a year of your year. or it could be more depending, right? What happens if they disappear and you haven't been able to touch them, your C R m or they haven't actually done the stuff that you hired them to do?
What happens if they just, they're off looking for another job, right? Happens to us too. We hire in bulk and make sure we train them, and then some of them don't make the. Some of 'em leave, and that's part of life. We have to understand that. So we, we do make a profit, but not a huge profit, but we're trying to make it so that it's, it's profitable for you, right?
If you hire video ease, it costs you $6,000 a year, right? There are discounts. That's why I deleted that. There's a lost productivity of 52 hours. That's one hour a week of sending the video out and having it come. You review it, make the edit comments, your revisions, how you want it done, and you send it off and you get two or three times, and that could be an hour, right?
But let's just be conservative. Let's just round it up to an hour. So it's 52 hours. If you do a video a week, which is two and a half percent a year, and yes, your cost is $6,000 per year, not adding that $50 an hour, so maybe I should do that, but you also have more opportunities. You have more opportunities to network and do prospecting and serving and getting better in front of the camera, right?
If you look at these numbers,
it's 40 days. That's a month and 10 days of lost production if you do it yourself. , and I understand. I love doing it right. I enjoy it. I still spend time futzing around playing inside there and understanding it. I just, I, sometimes I have to focus on business and building the business. , right? We're talking about all these other hours, other costs, right?
How much does your VA actually do for you?
We are video premier, procreative Canva. If you have that, you can have other things. These are just roundabout numbers and then sound and B-roll if you have story blocks or motion array or what have you, right? So that's added cost. That's all tucked into our costs. , right? So again, if you're $50 an hour, it costs you about $5,000.
If it's $50 an hour, it's half, it's, well, it's less than that, it's half of that. It was 25, 20 $600. So, then hiring VydeoEase costs you literally about $6,000.
Your time is better spent networking, serving, and helping others
yeah, that's it. So today's lesson is delegate class. Can you say that to me? Delegate means to offload and let somebody else do non-money-earning tasks. Just do it. You can hire your va, as a matter of fact, go to online jobs. ph and try it on yourself, and if you get a great one, God bless. Enjoy it. If you don't want to deal with it, don't wanna deal with the hiring and training and all that other.
There you go. We'll have a special opportunity for you. If you go to Karen Carr's meeting in May. We're gonna have a super discount for you. So there you go. And here's one thing I want to leave you with. May your success annoy the shit outta someone who doesn't want to see you succeed. Can I say that real quick?
There may your success annoy the shit outta someone who doesn't want to see you succeed. I'm Vitos Scarnecchia with VydeoEase. We'll see you out there.
